Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ph.D. (in hand by hire date) in Agricultural Education or closely related field with three years of secondary agriculture teaching experience. Teaching experience at the post-secondary undergraduate and/or graduate levels preferred.
- Experience in a leadership position with agricultural youth and/or adult organizations (i.e., FFA, 4-H, PAS and/or Young Farmers).
- Ability and desire to work with students in teaching, recruiting and advising.
- Possess a commitment to excellence in teaching and evidence of collegiality.
- Demonstrated ability to secure research and development funding through grant writing; perform scholarly activities preferred.
Examples of Duties: DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
- Provide instruction and leadership for the nationally accredited agricultural education and technology education teacher preparation component of the program.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in face-to-face and distance formats; recruit and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; conduct a nationally recognized research and scholarly program; engage in service activities that emphasize New Mexico secondary agricultural and technology education programs.
- Teaching assignment will focus on teaching strategies, student placement and supervision, and foundations of career and technical education; may also include agricultural communications and/or agriculture and community development content areas depending on experience and training.
- Successful external grantsmanship is expected as part of the research assignment.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with teacher licensure staff and faculty within the New Mexico Public Education Department and the NMSU College of Education.
- Serve as the department’s liaison to the Agriculture in the Classroom program and other agricultural literacy efforts.
- Assist with Agriculture and Community Development and/or Agricultural Communications programs.

General Information- A comprehensive land-grant institution of higher learning, New Mexico State University was founded in 1888 as an agricultural college and preparatory school. Dedicated to teaching, research, and service at the undergraduate and graduate levels, NMSU is a NASA Space Grant College, a Hispanic-serving institution and is home to the only Honors College in New Mexico. NMSU’s statewide presence includes 33 county extension offices and10 research centers, an Albuquerque Center, and campuses in Alamogordo, Carlsbad, Doña Ana County, Grants and Las Cruces. The Department of Agricultural and Extension Education is one of 8 academic departments within the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences. The Department offers two undergraduate majors- Agricultural and Extension Education with options in agricultural education teaching, agricultural communications (journalism and media), and technology education; and Agriculture and Community Development (geared toward those who want to be county Extension agents, professionals in NMDA, USDA, or other government agencies, industry educational specialists, or agricultural development specialists). The Department also offers a Master of Arts in Agricultural and Extension Education. Most graduate courses include the option of distance delivery.
