The Department of Health Science located within the College of Health and Social Services offers a SOPHE/AAHE Baccalaureate Program Approval Committee (SABPAC) approved Bachelor of Community Health and a Council for Education for Public Health (CEPH) accredited Master of Public Health in Community Health Education. Both programs are offered in traditional and online formats. Faculty teach across both the undergraduate and graduate programs.

Qualifications: Required qualifications include an earned doctorate in an area related to health science and/or public health from an accredited institution of higher education; a minimum of three years administrative experience; and a record of external funding and publication in peer reviewed journals. Other qualities of interest include a Master of Public Health degree; CHES certification; experience with the CEPH program accreditation process; demonstration of cross-cultural competency, experience in developing and teaching in public health programs at the doctoral level; and an ability to provide leadership for departmental outreach activities, e.g., through organizations such as Southern Area Health Education Center (SoAHEC).
Examples of Duties: Serve as academic department head in a growing department of health science to ensure continued SABPAC approval for the Bachelor of Community Health and continued CEPH accreditation for the Master in Public Health in Community Health Education. The department head will provide vision and leadership for both resident and distance education components of the programs, mentor faculty, and participate in the development of a strategic and long range plans for the department. The successful candidate will work to increase external funding to support collaborative research in health disparities, border health and related areas.
