Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Environmental or Civil Engineering or other related engineering background is required. Professional registration or the qualifications to become registered as a Professional Engineer within five years is also required. Candidates with expertise in emerging areas of environmental engineering, including innovative technologies in biological water and wastewater treatment, water and wastewater reuse, membrane technologies, nanotechnologies, and biotechnologies relating to energy and sustainability are encouraged to apply for this position. It is expected that the successful candidate will develop a strong, externally funded, nationally recognized research program through multi-disciplinary collaborations. Opportunities to develop such research programs are available through the Institute of Energy and Environment and the NSF-funded Engineering Research Center “Reinventing America’s Urban Water Infrastructure,” housed in the College of Engineering; the New Mexico Water Resources Research Institute housed at NMSU; and through collaboration with scientists at the nearby Sandia National Laboratories and Los Alamos National Laboratories. The successful candidate will be joining a team of environmental engineering faculty with expertise in physical, chemical, and biological process engineering for the treatment of water and wastewater, as well as the fate and transport of contaminants in air, soil, and water.
Examples of Duties: Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in fundamental and advanced Environmental Engineering; developing and sustaining research programs in the applicant’s area of expertise; recruiting and supervising MS and Ph.D. candidates. Expertise appropriate for teaching graduate level classes in wastewater treatment unit operations and environmental engineering microbiology is essential. Teaching and grantsmanship experience would be considered a plus.
