The New Mexico State University School of Social Work invites applications for a 9-month tenure track Assistant Professor position beginning August 17, 2008. The School of Social Work, located within the College of Health And Social Services, offers a CSWE accredited BSW program (110 majors) and MSW Program (215 majors). The MSW program is offered in both Las Cruces and Albuquerque. Faculty teach across both the BSW and MSW programs. The MSW concentration is advanced generalist practice with populations of the Southwest.

Qualifications: Minimum qualifications for appointment at the Assistant Professor level include an MSW from a CSWE-accredited program, two years post-MSW practice experience, be licensed or license eligible in New Mexico and an earned doctorate in social work or a related field. Preferred qualifications include 1) evidence of promise for excellence in teaching, 2) experience in using web-based instruction and other distance education delivery mechanisms, 3) evidence of promise for success in obtaining external funding and in carrying out a focused research agenda, 4) interest in interdisciplinary research on border health disparities and 5) those who have demonstrated experience in working with culturally diverse populations.
Examples of Duties: The successful applicant must be prepared to teach courses in social work practice, HBSE and research, advise graduate students, prepare and secure funded external support for one’s research, publish in refereed journals, be involved in community outreach projects along the U.S.-Mexico border and local communities, serve on departmental, college, and university committees, and be involved in leadership roles within professional organizations in one’s field of expertise. Further, an opportunity will exist to move into doctoral level education as the program is in the process of developing a Ph.D. program.
