The Don and Sarrah Kidd Endowed Chair in Literacy will be housed within the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education at New Mexico State University (NMSU). This is a tenure track, 9 month appointment on a fulltime basis at the Associate or Full Professor rank for a scholar whose research focus is on literacy. The selected candidate will have a modest working budget and have a three-course teaching load (nine semester hours) within an academic year. Additionally, the candidate will have the assistance of a full-time Graduate Assistant. New Mexico State University is a Hispanic Serving Institution positioned within a dynamic border region. The Kidd Endowed Chair must incorporate the context of this unique location to inform, enhance, and positively impact literacy research and application. This will include statewide leadership, and the establishment of working coalitions and collaborations with the array of state, regional, national, and international literacy agencies to promote world-class literacy attainment by all learners within the state. NMSU College of Education is committed to preparing educators for thoughtful and successful careers in PreK-12 public schools. The Department of Curriculum and Instruction faculty specializes in developing and modeling social justice pedagogical practices that work toward transformation in the schools. Faculty teach in the initial licensure Teacher Education Program, and the master’s degree and doctoral degree programs. University faculty engage in teaching, research and service. | Qualifications: | Required Qualifications: 1. must hold a doctoral degree in either Curriculum & Instruction or related discipline with an emphasis in literacy; 2. established record of teaching and scholarship in literacy; 3. evidence of securing external funding; and, 4. evidence of service in literacy outreach. | |||||
| Examples of Duties: | Expectations of the position:
• Develop, direct and engage in a program of research and scholarship focused on literacy. • Participate in research and outreach that informs and impacts scholarship, practice, and policy within the state, the region, the nation, and internationally. • Secure external funding in the field of literacy research, broadly defined. • Provide intellectual leadership and collaborative engagement with the Language, Literacy and Culture academic program area and/or the Bilingual/TESOL academic program area. | |||||
