The College of Arts & Sciences and The College of Education at New Mexico State University are seeking two joint appointments for positions as Assistant Professors in the field of mathematics education and science education. | |||||
| Qualifications: | Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education-9 month tenure track-Req. # 2007002704
Required Qualifications- (1) Earned doctorate in either curriculum & instruction with a concentration in mathematics education (Master’s in mathematics preferred); or an earned doctorate in mathematics with an area of focus in math education; or a doctorate in math education. (2) Two or more years of teaching (K-12, preferred); and (3) A research focus in K-12 math education. Assistant Professor of Science Education-9 month tenure track-Req. #2007002723 Required Qualifications- (1) Earned doctorate in either curriculum & instruction with a concentration in science education; or an earned doctorate in science (e. g. astronomy, biology, chemistry, geology, physics) with an area of focus in science education; or a doctorate in science education. (2) Two or more years of teaching (K-12, preferred); and (3) A research focus in K-12 science education. Preferred Qualifications for BOTH positions- evidence of successful teaching experience in content area (math or science) with K-12 populations; evidence of experience of working with diverse ethno-linguistic populations; evidence of ability to use educational technologies with critical perspectives (e.g., WebCT, Blackboard); and dispositions and/or ability to work in both Spanish and English. | |||||
| Examples of Duties: | These positions would require teaching courses in the subject concentration (mathematics or science) in the appropriate department as well as teaching math or science education courses in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction. In addition, duties include research and service.
