NMSU is located in southern New Mexico, the “Land of Enchantment”, just 50 miles from the El Paso airport. The NMSU campus houses the Physical Science Laboratory and has ties to Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories, the White Sands Missile Range, and the National Center for Genomics Research. | Qualifications: | The minimum qualifications are a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or in a closely-related discipline by the time of appointment, along with demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching and research. We particularly solicit applications from candidates with attitude for collaborative research, whose research foci can complement the existing expertise in the department; we are also interested in individuals that can promote inter-disciplinary research initiatives. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent research program and teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Computer Science. | |||||
| Examples of Duties: | The Computer Science Department at New Mexico State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level, with appointment starting in the Fall semester 2010. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in database management systems, data mining or related areas. Applications from women and members of traditionally under-represented groups are particularly encouraged. Salary and start-up package will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The Department has strong research and educational programs, especially in the areas of knowledge representation and reasoning, software engineering, computer networks, bioinformatics, game design, and theoretical computer science. The Department has an extensive computing infrastructure, which includes several parallel and distributed platforms. The Department offers B.S, M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science and actively participates in inter-disciplinary research and educational programs. The Department has received extensive funding for support of its instructional and research activities from a broad spectrum of agencies, including NSF, NIH, and the Department of Education. | |||||
