Qualifications- A doctoral degree in Human Nutrition, Dietetics, or closely related field is required. University teaching experience, including online course preparation, is preferred. Evidence of research capabilities, participation in professional organizations, and potential for working with graduate students is preferred. Must have excellent research and communication skills and enjoy interacting with students. In addition, the candidate must have the ability to work with culturally and socio-economically diverse audiences and possess a high degree of problem solving and presentation skills. Current Registered Dietitian credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration is required.
Examples of Duties: Position Description- The Department is seeking a full-time, tenure track faculty member in Family and Consumer Sciences. The person who is hired will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Human Nutrition and Dietetic Sciences (HNDS) major within the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. In addition to teaching, the applicant who is hired will be expected to recruit and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, conduct a nationally recognized research and scholarly program, engage in service activities and complete other duties as assigned.

The position is housed in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, which has the largest number of majors in the College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences. Other programs in the Department are Clothing, Textiles, and Fashion Merchandising; Family and Child Science; Family and Consumer Sciences Education; and Food Science and Technology. The undergraduate HNDS Program has approximately 110 students. The Dietetics option in HNDS is a Didactic Program in Dietetics accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). Other options in HNDS include Nutrition and Fitness, Community Nutrition and Prehealth with Nutrition Emphasis. An M.S. in Family and Consumer Sciences with an emphasis in Human Nutrition is offered by the Department. Graduate students may also compete for an appointment in the Dietetic Internship, which currently enrolls 12 interns and is a candidate for accreditation by ACEND.

Las Cruces is the second largest city in New Mexico and has a population of approximately 95,000 residents. It is in Dona Ana County (population 200,000) and is situated at the foot of the picturesque Organ Mountains, a southern extension of the Rocky Mountain chain. Access to the metropolitan area of El Paso, Texas (approximately 50 miles to the south) combined with an abundance of outdoor recreational activities, a moderate climate (the city enjoys approximately 350 days of sunshine per year), an excellent public school system and a relatively low cost of living, makes the greater Las Cruces community an attractive place to live and raise a family.
