Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ph.D. (in hand by hire date) in Animal Science or closely related field with emphasis in range ruminant nutrition.
- Demonstrated research experience in the area of grazing animal nutrition, nutrient metabolism and biochemistry; experience with research techniques at the cellular and organism levels are highly desirable.
- Potential for excellence in teaching, research and obtaining extramural funding.
- Ability to effectively communicate with students, colleagues and industry clientele.
- Ability to conduct collaborative research and pursue team objectives.
Examples of Duties: DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
• Research responsibility will focus on ruminant nutrition of grazing cattle and metabolism of nutrients by ruminant animals. Complimentary areas of interest may include nutritional physiology and relationships between nutrition and reproductive physiology.
• Establish a strong independent research program; collaborative involvement is expected with researchers in whole animal metabolism, rumen microbiology, range science, feedlot and forage nutrition, reproductive physiology and/or endocrinology.
• Candidate must be able to relate research objectives to improvement in livestock nutrition and production.
• Research activities will be focused at the Corona Range and Livestock Research Center with additional opportunities both on campus and at other off-campus experiment stations.
• Teaching responsibilities will be at the graduate and undergraduate level. Potential courses include Ruminant Nutrition, Range Nutrition Techniques, Cow/Calf Nutrition and other classes as needed.
• Other responsibilities will include student advisement, undergraduate and graduate; sponsoring student organization; service on university committees; interaction with livestock and allied industries.
