ACADEMIC – Earned baccalaureate and doctorate degrees in Civil Engineering or closely related fields (at the time of appointment) is required. Research experience in finite element modeling or computational mechanics is required. A strong background in structural design, non-destructive testing, or structural reliability is also desirable. The new faculty is expected to be a Licensed Professional Engineer or be qualified to become registered within 5 years from employment date. The new faculty should be available to begin in January 2014.
PERSONAL – The successful candidate must demonstrate effective communication skills in spoken and written English and demonstrate having a strong interest in research and scholarship, and personal and professional qualities to achieve excellence in teaching and student advising.
|Examples of Duties:||EXPERIENCE / RESPONSIBILITIES – The successful candidate is expected to develop and maintain an externally-funded research program in structural engineering or solid mechanics, publish research results, teach undergraduate and graduate classes related to solid mechanics, structural engineering, general civil engineering advise undergraduate and graduate students, and participate in service activities for the department, college, and university.New Mexico State University is a Land-Grant, NASA Space-Grant, Carnegie Doctoral/ Research-Extensive, Hispanic-Serving Institution (federal designation) with approximately 18,000 students on the main campus. The Civil Engineering Department has 14 tenured/tenure track faculty members in the structural, geotechnical, environmental, transportation, and water resource areas. The open position will bring the number of structural positions to five. The department has approximately 280 undergraduate students, 45 master’s students, and 50 Ph.D. students.|
