A Ph.D. in Political Science or Public Administration, D.P.A, Ph.D., or equivalent terminal degree. Preferred fields are public affairs, public policy, and/or public law. Candidates should demonstrate a record of quality independent scholarship and publications in the form of books and/or respected peer-reviewed journals commensurate with the rank of associate professor. The successful candidate must be competent to teach within the MPA core curriculum in either public budgeting, quantitative research methods, government ethics, organization theory, or human resources management. Teaching competence at the undergraduate level in public administration and American politics is preferred. Candidates should indicate in their application the mix of graduate and undergraduate courses in the department's programs they are willing and qualified to teach. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong evidence of effective classroom teaching, an ability to work effectively with students, faculty and community leaders, a commitment to public service, and an ability to contribute to online course offerings. Preference will be given to those committed to public administration and/or interdisciplinary research, and who are willing and able to assume a leadership role in the department that is commensurate with a senior rank appointment.
|Examples of Duties:||Teach a combination of graduate and undergraduate courses in public administration, public policy and/or political science; conduct scholarly research; and engage in professional service and outreach to the department, NMSU community, public agencies, and other relevant stakeholders and groups.
