| Qualifications: | • Ph.D. (in hand by hire date) in rangeland resources or closely related field with a preferred emphasis in range plant taxonomy, ecology or management
• Ability to accurately identify rangeland plant species and teach undergraduate plant identification and grass taxonomy courses • Effective communicator with students, colleagues, and government or industry clientele • Ability to develop and maintain a strong independent research program, obtain extramural funding, and direct graduate research programs in the area of rangeland plant taxonomy, ecology and/or management • Evidence of effective teaching skills • Evidence of the applicant’s ability to conduct both independent and collaborative research | |||||
| Examples of Duties: | • Teach undergraduate plant identification and grass taxonomy courses and develop and teach a graduate level course in rangeland ecology based on the individual’s expertise and needs of the Department of Animal and Range Sciences
• Expected to succeed in obtaining extramural funding for research in vegetation management, ecology or plant taxonomy. • Research activities should be devoted to the area of shrub and invasive species ecology, taxonomy, and/or management. Specific research areas may include plant control methods, integrated vegetation management, and fire ecology. Interacting with scientists in and outside the department from multiple disciplines is encouraged. • Mentor and advise graduate students, participate in undergraduate student advising • Serve as curator and coordinator of the Range Herbarium • Actively participate in Department activities, attend faculty meetings, serve on appropriate committees, and conduct additional duties as assigned by the department head | |||||

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION- The NMSU Department of Animal and Range Sciences consists of 17 faculty members and approximately 350 undergraduate and 35 graduate students, and has the second highest student enrollment growth rates in the College of Agriculture Consumer and Environmental Sciences. The department supports broad-based research and teaching programs, and encourages interdisciplinary collaboration. In addition to on-campus research and teaching facilities, NMSU Department of Animal and Range Sciences has two outlying Experiment Stations that total over 90,000 acres of native rangelands. | |||||
