Tenure Track Effective- August 10, 2009 Offer of employment contingent upon verification of individual's eligibility for employment in the United States. All offers of employment, oral and written, are contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by federal law, state law, and NMSU policies/procedures, and may include the completion of a criminal history check. The objective of this position is to develop an academic program in companion science, building upon the existing courses in the department. Emphasis will be given to canine, feline and equine species. New Mexico State University is the state’s Land Grand University and the Department of Animal and Range Sciences is responsible for the education of over 300 undergraduates and 30 graduate students. Many of our undergraduates are interested in a career in veterinary medicine. The department is one of two departments in the College of Agriculture and Home Economics that offer both a M.S. and Ph.D. degree. | |||||
| Qualifications: | - Ph.D. (in hand by hire date) in Animal Science or related field or a DVM is required.
- Effective communication skills; hands on experience with companion animals is strongly recommended; - Possess a commitment to excellence in teaching and evidence of collegiality. | |||||
| Examples of Duties: | - Teach undergraduate courses related to companion animal science emphasizing the area of expertise of the
successful candidate. - Develop courses within the department leading to a companion animal curriculum incorporating established courses in the department. - Student academic and career advising as well as working with student organizations interested in companion animals. - Participate in community outreach programs related to companion animals and animal assisted therapy. - Assist in the introductory companion animal courses including companion animal aspects of equine sciences. - Willingness to be certified in animal assisted therapy and acquisition of credentials to become a certification agent is preferred. | |||||
