Qualifications: Required Qualifications-
- Master’s degree in biology or related area. Degree must be in hand upon date of hire.
- Minimum of two years experience teaching lower-level, general biology lecture and lab courses

Preferred Qualifications-
- Background in environmental science and/or wildlife science
- Community college teaching experience.

Important Characteristics- Ability to work effectively with other faculty members and the administration in maintaining an effective instructional program. Ability to teach to a diverse student body.
Successful candidates must have a philosophy which supports the goal of success for all students through hands-on learning experiences and strong faculty involvement; and a willingness to work within both academic and career technical programs. Finalists will be asked to document their teaching effectiveness with relevant material and to present a teaching demonstration. Finalists must have an understanding of the community college function and philosophy, and interests in working with students of all ethnic groups, and a demonstrated interest of working with the community. Willingness to live in NMSU-A service area preferred.
Examples of Duties: 1. Coordinate all biology labs. Work with lab assistants. Oversee the ordering of equipment and supplies (equivalent to 6 credit hours service per academic year)
2. Provide 24 credit hours of instruction per year from the following laboratories/lectures- Human Biology, Natural History of Life, Botany, Environmental Science, Wildlife Science, and Zoology (remaining 6 credit hours of 30 hour equivalent required fulfilled through coordination of biology labs)
3. Develop materials for labs as needed. Maintain an up-to-date chemical inventory.
4. Conduct ongoing assessment of courses
5. Participate in institutional and program level assessment
6. Teach weekend, evenings, off-campus, and online as assigned
7. Participate in professional development activities.
8. Participate in various committee assignments for the benefit of NMSU-A.
9. Coordinate with NMSU departments and with appropriate external agencies and organizations.
10.Participate in community service activities
11. Fulfill other duties as assigned (especially as related to organization of lab, lab safety, etc.).
