| Qualifications: | Applicants should have a Ph.D. in an appropriate field and have a strong record of research productivity and research funding appropriate to rank. They should also have a commitment to mentoring undergraduate and graduate students at an institution with a diverse student body.

| Examples of Duties: | Candidates must have demonstrated skills in collaborative research and a willingness to participate in multidisciplinary research proposal development. Applicants are sought to participate in either of two focus areas- synthetic biology, or emerging pathogens and their vectors. We especially encourage applications from individuals with demonstrated expertise in- pathogenesis, vector biology, quantitative modeling, metabolomics and metabolic flux analysis, proteomics, and protein engineering. Successful candidates will have formal appointments in the Institute, with tenure available in one or more of the participating academic departments belonging to the colleges of Arts & Sciences, Agriculture, Engineering, or Health & Social Services. In addition to research activities, the candidates will be expected to teach one course annually at the graduate or undergraduate level and to participate in other scholarly and service activities in line with NMSU’s mission and goals.
The Institute draws on campus-wide expertise in all areas of biology, biochemistry and chemical biology, including computational and mathematical biology, and the ecology of plant, animal, and human diseases. Opportunities are available to participate in graduate training programs sponsored by NIH and undergraduate training programs sponsored by NIH, NSF, and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Core facilities include the Molecular Analysis Core Laboratory, the Electron Microscopy Laboratory, and a newly completed BSL-3 facility. Las Cruces is located in the scenic Rio Grande Valley surrounded by mountains that offer numerous outdoor activities. Las Cruces is listed in leading magazines as 1 of the top 10 places to live. In addition, NMSU collaborates with other leading research facilities, in particular the Los Alamos National Laboratory, Texas Tech Medical School, and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Institute faculty members are encouraged to develop strong collaborative relationships with these and other partners. . | |||||
