Masters degree in conducting or music education required, DMA or Ph.D. strongly preferred. A minimum of two years college teaching experience and a track record of successful public school teaching. Experience creating effective field drill is required; music arranging skills, preferred. Ability to demonstrate musical artistry as a director and teacher with significant knowledge of athletic band administration.
Examples of Duties: The successful candidate will conduct the NMSU Symphonic Band, direct the “Pride of New Mexico” Marching Band, Basketball Band, and coordinate all athletic band activities. He/she will dynamically contribute to the undergraduate and graduate programs in music education, teach courses relating to the strengths of the candidate and needs of the department, and serve on committees as assigned. The candidate will collaboratively assist the Director of Bands in all creative, administrative, and recruitment aspects of the NMSU Band Program.

The Music Department at New Mexico State University is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and has approximately 220 undergraduate majors and approximately 30 graduate students. The Department offers a variety of degrees that include the Bachelor of Music in Performance, Bachelor of Music Education, Bachelor of Music Business, Master of Music in Conducting, Master of Music in Music Education and Master of Music in Performance.
