.5 FTE – 12 month POSITION CONDITIONS- Position is contingent upon funding. May be subject to drug and alcohol testing depending on the contract requirements. Required to sign a U.S. Food & Drug Administration- NMSU Confidentiality Agreement. | Qualifications: | EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of Bachelor’s degree (in hand by hire date) in Microbiology or related field with 5 years of experience. Master’s of Science degree in Microbiology or related field preferred. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: - Extensive knowledge and experience in microbiology, biochemistry and molecular biology principles and their application to microbiological identification of pathogenic microorganisms. - Knowledge of sophisticated lab equipment; principles of supervision and training; biohazard safety regulations. - Knowledge and experience in the use of computer software, (including MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and access to worldwide web. - Knowledge of university policies and procedures preferred. |
| Examples of Duties: | RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare, perform and supervise microbiological assays of food samples for the presence/absence of pathogenic microorganisms using cultural techniques, immunoassays and nucleic acid based techniques. - Characterize bacterial isolates using biochemical tests. - Maintain records of data collected in the course of the experiments, data for quality assurance purposes and other data as assigned. - Write reports from data collected during experiments, quality assurance observations and other reports as assigned. - Collaborate with co-workers to help solve problems and communicate ideas; coordinate experimental work with principle investigator. - Other duties as assigned. |
