We are offering a great opportunity for a motivated engineer to work in the dynamic and challenging field of scientific ballooning. Applicants must be able to travel to worldwide remote sites including Australia, Sweden, Sicily, Antarctica and Alaska for up to 10 weeks, one to two times per year. The selected applicant will be required to pass the physical requirements to work in Antarctica prior to hiring. Benefits include 22 days of vacation plus government holidays and differential pay for extended travel time. POSITION CONTINGENT UPON FUNDING |
| Qualifications: | Bachelor's degree in hand by hire date in Electrical Engineering or related field which provided the following knowledge, skills and abilities-
Good knowledge of electronic circuit design and troubleshooting. Knowledge of serial communications and/or telemetry systems desired. Knowledge of embedded microprocessor, microcontroller, and/or EPLD systems design is desired. Experience with Orcad and/or Protel schematic capture and circuit board layout desired. Experience with LabVIEW, C/C++, and/or Visual BASIC desired. Ability to integrate and troubleshoot satellite communications systems, power systems, and data acquisition systems. Ability to setup and configure computer hardware and Microsoft Windows operating systems desired. Ability to solder is desirable. Ability to communicate effectively in oral, graphical, and written forms. Ability to travel to worldwide remote sites for up to 10 weeks one to two times per year. ABILITY TO PASS THE PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS TO WORK IN ANTARCTICA. |
| Examples of Duties: | Prepare balloon subsystems for flight and perform all pre-flight testing and calibration. Monitor and control sub-systems during flight to insure optimal performance. Assist in design/development and integration of satellite communication, telemetry and data acquisition systems. Perform integration of science payloads and balloon sub-systems. Operate environmental chamber to support testing of balloon systems and science payloads. Graph and analyze flight data. Could perform related work that falls within the limits or required qualifications for this position.
