Qualifications: Masters degree in Counseling and four years of counseling experience. Must be licensed or license eligible in New Mexico; Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
Knowledge of- University and department (disability services and counseling) policies and procedures; principles and practices of organization and administration; counseling theory and techniques, career and academic counseling; crisis intervention and community resources; professional ethics; psychopathology; psychological assessment and consultation; referral resources; and human growth and development.
Skills in- problem identification, analysis, and resolution; facilitation of referrals; public contact and relations; short- and long-range planning.
Abilities to- Travel periodically for training and consultation; communicate effectively in written and oral form; develop and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty and staff; report preparation, recognition of when to consult with other professionals; maintain accurate and orderly records; use independent judgment and initiative; organize and direct activities; analyze and evaluate information direct, evaluate, train and supervise the work of assigned personnel; safeguard confidential and privileged information.
Examples of Duties: • Supervise, direct, delegate, and evaluate work of assigned staff
• Provide individual counseling to students in personal and interpersonal adjustment, academic concerns, and career and life planning and refers students to counseling resources and other services as appropriate
• Administer career assessments and possibly objective personality assessment depending upon training level; if unable to provide the assessments, is able to refer to outside resources for such services
• May work in consultation with the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities as follows-
o Identify, interview and evaluate new students in terms of physical, medical, educational and campus life needs
o Initiate appropriate intervention and referral of students with disabilities
o Consult with faculty, staff, vocational rehabilitation representatives, medical personnel and others, as appropriate, to provide an optimum environment for student success
o Provide training, education, information and consultation to faculty and staff on regulatory compliance for students, faculty and visitors with disabilities
o Collect all documentation and data required to respond to complaints associated with regulatory compliance
o Serve as liaison when providing direct auxiliary aides
o Perform related duties as required
