| Qualifications: | QUALIFICATIONS:
• Earned Doctorate from an accredited institution. Degree must be in hand by hire date. • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible instructional administration experience in higher education, at least three years of which must be recent experience in a technical or community college setting • Three years’ full-time teaching experience in an accredited community college. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Leadership style that is visionary, collaborative, and practices shared governance. • Leadership in fiscal management, strategic planning, curriculum and instruction, program development, student retention, promotion and tenure, enrollment management, space utilization, and community relations. • Commitment to the mission of a comprehensive community college. • Effective communication skills. • Knowledge of current research in learning theories and practices in higher education. • Commitment to foster a climate that values, respects, and affirms diversity within a border-culture community. • Sensitivity to the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, racial, ethnic and disability backgrounds of community college students. • Leadership in ongoing assessment and evaluation of instructional programs based on enrollment, community and college needs. • Knowledge, understanding, and support of adult basic education, developmental education, and workforce development (community education and customized training). • Promotion and support of innovative educational technologies in credit and non-credit settings. • Promotion and support of comprehensive and integrated on-line teaching and learning. • Commitment to the role of student services for academic success. • Commitment to and support of information literacy/learning resource centers. • Experience working in a multi-campus educational system. • Bilingual in English and Spanish will be considered an asset. |
| Examples of Duties: | RESPONSIBILITIES-
The Vice President for Academic Affairs is the chief instructional officer of the college, reporting directly to the President, and overseeing the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs; Division Deans; Workforce Development Officer; and Campus Directors. The VP for Academic Affairs will work closely with the Vice President for Business and Finance and Vice President for Student Services to promote connections between the multiple functions of the community college. In addition, the VP for Academic Affairs shall- • Assist the President in the general operation and planning for the community college, budget development and monitoring, faculty and staff hiring, economic and workforce development initiatives and implementation, and facility utilization. • Formulate, disseminate, and implement the College’s academic mission and goals. • Formulate, promote, and implement academic policies to ensure instructional integrity. • Function in a team-oriented, collaborative environment to foster high academic standards, faculty expertise, creativity and innovation in the delivery of instructional programs. • Provide vision, leadership, direction, and coordination for an instructional team that includes 100 full-time and 350 part-time faculty in the planning and delivery of instruction for credit and non-credit programs at multiple campuses and off-site locations. • Develop strategies for improvement of academic programs; ensure an effective teaching and learning environment emulating the Learning College model. • Endorse a culture that encourages academic effectiveness by promoting continuous evaluation of instructional programs and systematic assessment of student learning outcomes. • Work closely with faculty self-governance structures. • Promotes the development of a high-quality faculty and staff. • Cultivate partnerships across the college, New Mexico State University, and Doña Ana County communities. • Participate in community outreach and development activities to include development of external funding sources. • Enhance a racially, ethnically, and culturally diverse learning environment. |
