| Qualifications: | REQUIRED-
Bahelors degree (in hand by hire date) in Chemistry and five years related experience. Masters degree preferred. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS- Knowledge of analytical chemical principles, theories, practice and established methodology for analyzing samples and ability to work with a team to develop and modify analytical methods Knowledge of GC-MS and LC-MS principles and ability to operate, calibrate, and maintain GC and/or LC mass spectrometry equipment including accessories sufficient to be able to evaluate their use in the analyses of food and agricultural samples Ability to work as a team and independently, follow work tasks and priorities to meet deadlines and supervise some experimental protocols Knowledge of computer software including MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel; use of internet for research purposes. Knowledge of High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) desirable Knowledge of Biohazard safety regulations and use of safety equipment; Capable and willing to work with a variety of irritant chemicals and biological samples including poisons and other deleterious agents. Work will involve periods of prolonged standing. Knowledge of university policies and procedures preferred. |
| Examples of Duties: | Serves as research chemist in area of mass spectrometry/analytical chemistry conducting analysis for- poisons in complex matrices such as food; the stability and the bio availability of poisons in these matrices; establish chemical profiles of poisons and other deleterious substances placed in foods.
Responsible for all or portions of experimental studies designed to improve and enhance analytical methods currently in use or develop totally new methodology in the area of mass spectrometry/analytical chemistry. Prepare notes, reports, manuals and protocols describing the results of research. May be required to prepare portions of manuscripts for publication in the scientific literature, develop and present papers for presentation before scientific groups; attend meetings of interest in the field of mass spectrometry/analytical chemistry. May supervise junior chemist and student assistants Maintain records of data collected in the course of experiments, data for quality assurance purposes and other requirements. Collaborate with co-workers to help solve problems and communicate ideas; coordinate experimental work with other principle investigators. Conduct library research and summarize technical information. |
