Qualifications: Master’s degree in agriculture, marketing, or a related field and a minimum of three years experience, two of which should be university related. Knowledge of university and department policies and procedures; livestock and agriculture; state and federal laws and regulations. Skills in short and long range planning; problem analysis and resolution; effective public relations, excellent oral and written communication, and time management. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external parties, analyze and evaluate information, maintain accurate and orderly records, and organize and direct activities of others.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Experience in analyzing federal/state programs, policies, regulations and laws impacting agriculture, food and natural resource systems. Knowledge of and experience in federal/state governmental process.
Examples of Duties: The Ag Specialist III, under the supervision of the Director of Legislative and Governmental Relations, is responsible for effectively assisting in legislative and economic development efforts to include-

1. Supervise, direct, and delegate work of assigned staff.
2. Review, analyze, and interpret agricultural related policies and legal actions.
3. Serve as a liaison between NMDA and state and federal agencies.
4. Assist in drafting policy initiatives and programs related to agricultural economic development.
5. Coordinate and participate in NMDA administrative hearings.
6. Provide technical support to legislative and executive branches.
7. Perform other duties as assigned.
