LOCATION: Las Cruces, NM CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT- Willing to travel 50 percent of the time, including extended or last minute overnight trips. Defensive driving training required within three months after employment. Driving record subject to investigation. Ability to work around pesticides without adverse allergic reactions or chemical sensitivities. Provide clear, concise, and timely reports to supervisor. Ability to work odd hours as needed and travel on short notice. Appropriately and professionally represent the department in the performance of duties. | Qualifications: | REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Inspector I- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (in hand by hire date) and a minimum of 1 to 2 years experience. Inspector II- A minimum of 3 years experience in addition to the Inspector I qualifications. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Degree in agriculture, natural sciences, pest management, or related field. Experience in regulatory or law enforcement. Knowledge of pesticide application equipment and practices. Ability to use independent judgment, initiative, and logical problem analysis. Evidence of working independently in positions of responsibility with minimum supervision. Experience with personal computer. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships. Evidence of good oral and written communication skills. Ability to maintain accurate and orderly records. |
| Examples of Duties: | DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The inspector, under supervision of the enforcement program manager, is responsible for administering regulatory programs under the New Mexico Pesticide Control Act and associated regulations.
• Inspect licensed pesticide applicators and pesticide sales outlets for compliance with state and federal pesticide laws. • Investigate reports of suspected pesticide misuse and document violations for referral to supervisor. • Collect routine and investigative pesticide samples for laboratory analysis. • Assist sponsors of pesticide applicator training programs including developing and conducting presentations as necessary. • Administer pesticide licensing examinations to qualified applicants in assigned area. • Interpret and explain New Mexico Pesticide Control Act and attendant rules to the regulated community and interested parties. • Maintain effective communication with the public, regulated industry, and other regulatory agencies. • Complete directives of supervisor including- producing timely, clear, concise, accurate reports, documents, and inspection forms, communicating on a regular and timely with supervisor as to activities and work schedule, consistently maintaining adequate inspection and work schedule during normal work hours, and maintain availability for adequate response time for complaint investigations. • Perform other duties as assigned. |
