| Special Conditions: | Inquiries, applications and nominations are invited for the position of Dean of the College of Health and Social Services at New Mexico State University. NMSU is a Hispanic-serving, doctoral/research, land grant and space grant institution. The University system serves over 27,000 students including 13,000 undergraduates and 3000 graduates on the Las Cruces campus and over 10,000 students on four community college campuses. NMSU offers 74 undergraduate, 51 masters and 24 doctoral degree programs Research and public service expenditures exceed $140 million per year.
The College of Health and Social Services offers graduate and undergraduate degree programs in nursing, social work, health science, public health, human and community services. There is an extensive distance education initiative that has tripled in enrollment in the past two years and provides off-campus access to students in cities and remote counties of the state. | Qualifications: | The qualifications for the position of dean include an earned doctoral degree from an accredited institution of higher education in one or more of the health and social sciences disciplines or closely related discipline. The successful candidate will be eligible for tenure at the rank of professor within the college and will demonstrate experience with one or more of the national accreditation councils. Other qualifications include possession of a record of significant scholarly achievement, a history of success in promoting the goals of equal opportunity employment and five years of administrative experience at the level of department chair or above. Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate success in supporting undergraduate and graduate instruction, distance education, grant writing, funding, and research. Excellent communication skills and a history of strong
collegiality and cooperation with units across campus and with the community are desirable. |
| Examples of Duties: | The Dean promotes high standards of teaching, service, scholarship, and outreach. Specific position responsibilities include recruitment and student success, program development and assessment, resource and personnel management, strategic and long-range planning, fund raising, and faculty and staff development. |
