An education in philosophy is first and foremost an education in critical thinking.

The Department of Philosophy at New Mexico State University provides an undergraduate education in philosophy comparable to the best small programs in the country. Philosophy students are exposed to the classical texts and problems of ancient, modern, and contemporary philosophy.

The department supports an undergraduate major, a general minor in philosophy, as well as a minor in ethics.

Courses in History of Philosophy, Logic, Ethics, Epistemology, Political Philosophy, Philosophy of Law, Metaphysics, and the Philosophy of Religion are offered.

Philosophy students at NMSU study in a small friendly department where they can have close interaction with faculty who take pride in their teaching but who are also serious researchers.
