Major and Minor in Philosophy
The program leading to the B.A. in philosophy is designed to give students a broad background in philosophy, while allowing them to select particular courses suited to their particular needs and interests.
To earn a B.A. in philosophy a student must earn a minimum of 30 credit hours in philosophy. The student must also take upper-division courses in Logic and Ethics as well as several from a general core, including Metaphysics, Epistemology, Philosophy of Mind, Philosophy of Science, and Philosophy of Language.
The Major Requirements
The major program requires the following courses:
PHIL 101G, The Art of Wondering OR PHIL 201, Introduction to Philosophy
PHIL 312, Formal Logic
PHIL 341, Ancient Philosophy OR PHIL 344, Modern Philosophy
Three credits in ethics from the following:
PHIL 320, Social and Political Philosophy;
PHIL 373, Ethical Theory;
PHIL 376, Philosophy of Law
Six credits from the following core:
PHIL 315, Philosophy of Language;
PHIL 346, Philosophy of Mind;
PHIL 350, Epistemology;
PHIL 351, Philosophy of Science;
PHIL 380, Metaphysics
At lease 12 additional credits in philosophy, 6 of which are in courses numbered 300 or above.
Electives: Sufficient to bring total credits to 128, including 55 upper-division.

PHIL 220, Individual Conduct & Society, PHIL 223, Ethics OR PHIL 373 Ethical Theory
