Group Fitness Class Descriptions Classes are brought to you by the NMSU Student Wellness Center

The Student Wellness Center offers many different fitness classes.

  • All classes take place within Room 124 of the Activity Center, unless otherwise noted.
  • You may only access these classes by purchasing either a punch card or semester pass.
  • Group fitness class passes may be purchased at the NMSU Student Wellness Center or Intramurals Office (Room 230). both are located on the second floor of the Activity Center.
  • Class space and equipment are limited. Classes are conducted on a first come, first served basis.

Yoga
A sound mind is a perfect compliment to a healthy body. Come improve your flexibility, stability, and mental concentration. A great way to relieve daily stress, unwind, and stimulate mind and body control.

Body Blast / Body Sculpting / Morning Body Tone / Cardio Muscle Mix
These classes are very similar in format. These 60-minute classes incorporate the best of both fitness worlds - cardiovascular exercises to work up a sweat and light strength training to tone stubborn muscle groups. They incorporate easy step work, light barbells, strength bands, and hand hel weights all in cadence to revitalizing, upbeat music. Get a great total body pump and construct a healthy body that your friends will be jealous of!

Pilates
The lates buzz-word in the fitness field is Pilates. This class will take you through an incredible total body, core-strengthening hour workout that will improve your flexibility, muscle stability, and overall muscle tone.

Indoor Cycling: Morning Ride / Noon ride / Afternoon Ride / Evening Ride
Be prepared to pedal until your heart is content without having to brave the tortures of Mother Nature. Indoor cycling offers a fun and sociable atmosphere while safely and comfortably taking your cardiovascular system to new levels. Take a "vertiual" bike ride with these popular classes without leaving the AC!

Cardio Pump
this circuit-style fitness class will give you a unique blend of cardipo activity and strength & toning moves to create the perfect physique. Don't have a lot of time to train? Have a hectic schedule? This 45-min class is perfect for those with a busy lifestyle and will give you a balanced and effective workout in a condensed time period. Come get your Cardio Pump on!!!

Buns & Abs
A class to target and tone those infamous trouble areas. This fun and energizing 60-minute class will isolate the glutes and abdominal areas to help give you the toned and chiseled look you have always wanted.

20/20/20 Fitness
20/20/20 Fitness is a revolutionary new class that is just what you're looking for to add diversity to your workouts. The class is divided into three sections: Step Aerobics/Abdominal Training/Strength & Toning with 20 minutes dedicated to each section.

Simply Step
Step up your fitness levels with this exciting cardio vascular class. This step class will incorporate aerobic movements performed both on the floor and with a step platform to burn calories and give you a safe and effective workout.

Dance/Step Aerobics
No need to bring your dancing shoes for this action-packed class, but be prepared for a fast-paced workout that is anything by "ordinary"! This class incorporates upbeat moves with modern step aerobic choreography.

"Ab-solute"
This 30-min class is a perfect way to incorporate a quick yet beneficial exercise session into anybody's busy schedule. The class will provide effective abdominal movements to strengthen and tone the all-important core area as well as proper stretching technique to improve flexibility and range of motion throughout the entire body. So you only have a short time to workout? Try "Ab-solute"!

Meditation
Learn how to relieve your body's inner negitive stress and channel your mind's power for positive results. This class will take you through a series of mind relaxing techniques leaving your with a clear mind and invigorated soul.

Stretch & Strength
Stretch-n-Strength will enable participants to learn a variety of theraband exercises and self-massage techniques which will strengthen and relax muscles. Stretching, strengthening and releasing tension is vital to an overall healthy body, mind and spirit. The exercises learned within this class are considered tools which participants can then use in their daily lives at home, work, or while traveling. (Comfortable warm clothes, 2 tennis balls, and 2 hand towels needed. Therabands will be provided.)

Abs / Cardio Blast
This target-area class not only gives you a chance to sculpt washboard abs, but helps you burn the fat so you can show them off! By combining the best abdominal movements, light body toning exercises, and basic aerobic activity to melt fat away, you get a dynamite combination.

Prices:

5-class punch card: 8$(students); $15 (faculty/staff)
10-class punch card: $10 (students); $20 (faculty/staff)
Full Semester Pass (unlimited access: $25(students); $50 (faculty/staff)
