Many people thoroughly enjoy, or are newly discovering, the relaxing, soothing and healing effects of a good hot spring or mineral bath. In New Mexico there are many to choose from. Some require a rugged hike to reach, while others offer accommoda- tions and various services. Below are links or detailed information to hot springs, mineral baths, spas, articles and books about the healing qualities of a good hot spring or mineral bath in New Mexico.

• Artesian Bathhouse and Trailer Court - Eight private baths, massage therapy, herbal doctor and small RV park! Located in downtown Truth or Consequences, NM (505) 894-2684 Small Fee
• Battleship Rock Hot Springs - Beautiful, 50 foot long 90º pond along hiking road that starts at the base of Battleship Rock. Bathing suit required. Located 5 miles N of Jemez Springs, NM off of NM 4. Free
• Blackrock Hot Spring AKA Hondo Hot Springs - Easily accessible, this hot spring is small and warm but sometimes crowded! Click on the name for a good descriptive article, directions and a good map. Beautiful view of the Rio Grande Gorge because you are in it! Bathing suit optional. Located just west of the town of Arroyo Hondo, northwest of Taos, NM (505) 758-3873 or (800) 732-8267 Free
• Bubbles Hot Springs - Beautiful, unimproved hot springs near the San Francisco Hot Springs. Very primitive, and camping allowed. Bathing suit optional. Located 1/2 mile downstream of the San Francisco Hot Springs, south of the town of Pleasanton, NM Free
• Charles Motel and Bathhouse - Eight indoor tubs, massages, saunas, lodging, camping, beauty shop, gift shop. No clothing requirement. Located at 601 Broadway, Truth or Consequences, NM (505) 894-7154 or (800) 317-4518 Small Fee
• Faywood Hot Springs - A geothermal spa resort that has several outdoor public and private soaking pools. There are separate clothing-required, clothing-optional and private bathing areas. There are also private cabins, tent sites for camping, pull through RV sites with full hook ups, travel trailers and a teepee for overnight lodging accommodations. Massage therapy, picnicking, hiking, bird watching, horseback riding and relaxing solitude also available. • Frisco Box Hot Spring - A beautiful, scenic hike along the San Francisco River will allow you to enjoy this 98º concrete soaking pool, fed by primitive hot springs. Camping nearby. No bathing suit required. Located near Luna, NM. Visit the Luna Ranger Station for information and directions. Free
• Giggling Springs - A natural hot mineral water, outdoor soaking pool. The oldest bath house in the area (circa 1800s), the hot spring was enclosed with dry stacked natural red rock, in the way of the ancient Anasazi Indians. With shade, beautiful views, and the sounds of the Jemez River running 20 feet away, you are in for a treat of pure relaxation. Small and personal, the pool is about 17' by 27' and is for therapeutic soaking. Hourly, day use, and frequent soaker passes are available. Open year round. E-mail at giggle@GigglingSprings.com. • Gila Hot Springs Vacation Center - A "full service" hot springs center with outdoor soaking pools, indoor jacuzzi tub, camping, RV, lodging, picnic area, store and snack bar. Bathing suits required. Located 40 miles north of Silver City, NM, on NM15, just 4 miles south of the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument (505) 536-9551 Small Fee
• Hay-Yo-Kay Hot Springs - We are the oldest, continuously operating bath house in town. Our facilities feature six (6) private pools of artesian hot mineral water. Our bath house was originally constructed about 1930. It has been in the Kortemeier Family since 1972. We are a "bath house" only, we do not offer lodging accommodations. We have seasonal hours! November through March - Wednesday - Saturday: 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM last bather needs to be in by 6:30 PM, Sunday: 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Truth or Consequences, NM (505) 894-2228 Various Fees
• House Log Canyon Hot Springs - This little hot spring is found only when the Gila river is low. It is unimproved and surrounded by trees and ferns. Bathing suit optional. Located northwest of the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument Visitors Center (505) 536-9461 Stop in for directions. Free
• Indian Springs* - Located at 218 Austin, Truth or Consequences, NM (505) 894-2018 Various Fees
• Jemez Springs Bath House - Lovely, traditional, segregated indoor hot pools, English tubs, massages, facials, herbal wraps and more. Bathing suits & reservations required. Located in the town of Jemez Springs, NM on NM4 (505) 829-3303 Small fee
• Jordan Hot Springs - A good, 8 mile hike will reward you with some beautiful warm springs just above the Middle Fork area of the Gila Wilderness. A fairly hard hike and more than 50 river crossings! Located 8 miles upstream from the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument Visitors Center (505) 536-9461 Free
• Lightfeather Hot Spring - Hike to this 40' long, 150º hot pool. Follow the trail the Apaches used but stay above the river. No bathing suit required. Store, cafe and RV hookups about 2 miles away. Located 1/2 mile from the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument Visitors Center (505) 536-9461 or 2250 Free
• Manby Hot Springs - Two hot pools located in the ruins of an old stagecoach stop. Bathing suit optional. Easy hike. Located southwest of the town of Arroyo Hondo, which is northwest of Taos, NM Free

• McCauley Hot Springs - Beautiful, forest surroundings make a dip in this 85º warm pool and great first stop before going the the Battleship Rock springs. Bathing suit required. Camping nearby. Located 5 miles north of Jemez Springs, NM, and about a mile from the Battleship Rock picnic area on NM4. Free
• Melanie Hot Springs - A tough hike, especially on the ankles because you cross back and forth over the river many times, but what awaits for you is this 112º hot spring to rest your weary body. Several pools. No bathing suit required. Located between Silver City and the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument, 1/2 mile off NM 15. Free
• Middle Fork Hot Springs - Easy hike and quick to get to, this 130º hot spring feeds into pools dug by visitors in the Gila National Forest. Beautiful surroundings and lots of birds. Located 1/2 mile north of the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument Visitors Center at the north end of Hwy 15. Walk into the Middle Fork canyon and travel upstream. Just past the second river crossing, on the east side of the river, you will find the springs. Watch out for the big rock! (505) 536-9461 Free
• Montezuma Hot Springs - Eight outdoor, cement soaking pits in a once-abandoned, turn-of-the-century resort bathhouse. Bathing suits required. Located 6 miles northwest of Las Vegas, NM on NM65. Signage. Free
• Ojo Caliente - One of the oldest hot springs in North America! Five springs each with its own medicinal purposes. Offers both outdoor and indoor pools; hot and cold. Private tubs, massage, lodging, camping, picnic area and restaurant. Bathing suit required. Located between Santa Fe and Taos in Ojo Caliente, NM, 50 Los Banos Drive, off US 285 (505) 583-2233 or (800) 222-9162 Small Fee
• Radium Hot Springs Inn - In the 1920s, the historic Radium Hot Springs Inn was built with bathhouses connected to the wells. It attracted many people who felt the water was beneficial for arthritis, nerve problems and many other diseases. It flourished in that capacity for almost 50 years, then served as a women's prison, an art center and later a private residence. Today, due to restoration efforts by owners Jeff Goacher and David Steen, it is a beautiful, peaceful, bed and breakfast with fabulous tubs at 112 degree, the water coming straight out of the well. • Riverbend Hot Springs - A unique and affordable resort and spa where guests can soak in the only riverside springs in Truth or Consequences. Come heal your body and soul in several open-air, public or private pools, situated right on the banks of the Rio Grande River with Turtleback Mountain view. • San Antonio Hot Springs - A collection of hot springs that flow out of a steep hillside. Located in the Santa Fe National Forest, the springs flow down and form several pools. Located west of Santa Fe, north of the town of Jemez Springs. It is about a 10 minute walk from where you can park. Ask locals for directions. Jemez Springs
• San Francisco Hot Springs - This has a few primitive hot springs, however, there is talk of the lower pools having some bad amoebae that gets into the brain and could cause you to die!!! Bathing suit optional. If you just have to see these springs, they are located 2 miles southwest of Pleasanton, NM, on US 180, on the San Francisco River. Look for the signs & the parking area. There are rangers around and warning signs are posted. Free
• Sierra Grande Lodge & Spa - surrounded by rugged peaks, ragged canyons, Elephant Butte Lake and the Rio Grande River. It sits on top of thermal hot springs that have long provided a means for natural stress reduction and healthy physical rejuvenation. Located in Truth or Consequences, NM (505) 894-6976 Various Fees
• Soda Dam Hot Springs- Interesting "cool" pools that bubble like hot pools! Hot pools too. Natural dam, 300 feet long, formed by mineral deposits. Bathing suit required. Located 2 miles N of Jemez Springs, NM. Free
• Spence Hot Springs - Beautiful sunsets, views and a nice (yet a little difficult) hike will bring you to this 102ºhot spring with a soft, sandy bottom. Bathing suit required. Camping and RV areas about 5 miles away. Located 7 miles north of Jemez Springs, NM off of NM4 (505) 829-3535 Free
• Stagecoach Hot Springs - Although you can hike some fishing trails or follow the dirt road over the mesa, the best way to reach this spring is in a boat! Two pools run from 90-100º in temperature and no bathing suit is required. Located in the Rio Grande Gorge northwest of Taos, NM. Free
• Ten Thousand Waves - A unique Japanese Bathhouse. Please click on the name to go to their lovely web site that will give you all the information you need about this place. Located in Santa Fe, NM (505) 992-5025 Various Fees
• T or C Hot Springs - Indoor tubs & saunas make up this bath house. Located in downtown Truth or Consequences, NM (505) 894-3536 Small Fee
• Turkey Creek Hot Springs - If you like a good, long, overnight backpacking hike, then you will enjoy visiting the hot springs at Turkey Creek. Several pools each with different temperatures. There are no maintained trails to these pools. Located north of the little town of Gila. The following directions are from www.southwestsource.net: "From the end of the jeep road (Turkey Creek Road) wilderness Trail FS 724 crosses the Gila River several times before reaching a junction with Wilderness Trail FS 155, which starts up Turkey Creek Canyon. About 2 miles later, Trail FS155 begins to climb up onto a ridge separating Turkey Creek from Skeleton Canyon. Do NOT follow Trail FS155 up onto that ridge. Instead, stay in the bottom of Turkey Creek Canyon, even though there is often no visible trail. Another 1/2 mile will bring you to the first of the springs." Free
• Upper Middle Fork Hot Springs - After this adventurous 18-mile hike, you will need this hot spring! Take trail 646 or 645 located about nine miles from the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument Visitors Center (505) 536-9461. Stop in for more information. Free
