A National Historic Landmark,
the Trinity site is open to the public on the first Saturday
of April and October. The 51,500-acre "atomic bomb"
testing landmark includes base camp, ground zero and the McDonald
ranch house, where the plutonium core to the bomb was assembled.
Visit these sites and a part of the original crater left by the
explosion, revealing Trinitite, a greenish-colored glassy substance
formed by the heat and pressure of the explosion. If you don't
feel like caravaning in your own vehicle, inquire about getting
in on a comfort ride in an air conditioned motor coach or van.
