HOLIDAY FUN, EXCITEMENT and PREPARATIONS!

Over the last five years or so the university has experienced a number of emergency incidents during the holiday periods. This advisory is presented to help ensure the safety of your research, shop, office, and laboratory.

In the next two weeks evaluate your projects to determine a logical point at which the process can be secured or put on hold until your return after the holidays. Thoroughly evaluate your process to ensure that none of the processes can "run dry" causing emergency conditions to arise.

Some conditions might be overheating, fire, explosion, or significant off gassing. Assure that emergency numbers of responsible personnel and who will be immediately available during the holidays are posted on the door of your spaces.

DO NOT WORK ALONE WITH HAZARDOUS SITUATIONS OR MATERIALS!

If your process cannot be terminated and must continue, establish a duty roster of who will check in on the process, very regularly, during the holiday break. Do your neighbor a favor and instate a cooperative vigil in your facility.

Please remember that all regular services are subject to emergency shutdown at any time during the holiday period. How the loss of any of the power services (electric, steam, water, etc.) might affect your project must be analyzed and prepared for now.
