Fire drills to be conducted during week of Oct. 14

Random fire drills will be conducted at non-residential campus
facilities during the week of Oct. 14 as part of the university
administration's efforts to increase safety awareness.
University Fire Chief Darrell Smith said the drills will give the Fire
and Emergency Services Department, the Environmental Health and Safety
Office and the University Police Department an opportunity to evaluate
emergency procedures.
The drills also are intended to encourage departments to develop or
review their emergency action plans so they will be better prepared in
the event of an emergency.
One drill a day will be conducted, between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m., during
the week of Oct. 14.
Smith said any department that needs assistance with emergency planning
is encouraged to call Environmental Health and Safety at 646-3327.
Departments that would prefer to schedule a fire drill in lieu of random
testing may contact the fire department at 646-2519.
Smith stressed the importance of treating every fire alarm ďas the
signal to implement emergency action procedures and evacuate the
facility. Donít assume the alarm is a drill or false alarm.Ē
