Subject:    Asbestos Awareness Classes

ANNOUNCEMENT
Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) has scheduled four (4) presentations on Asbestos Awareness in January 2003.

These will be presented at the EH&S Training facility, Room 102, Unit B, Genesis Research Center, 4200 Research Drive (next to Parking and Employee Health Offices) on:

  • January 9 at  9 to 10:30 am  and 1:30 to 3 pm
  • January 10 at  9 to 10:30 am  and 1:30 to 3 pm

EH&S and the Office of Facility Services (OFS) have arranged this training to help NMSU comply with State and Federal requirements.
Employees must register and attend the 1.5 hour class in order to complete training.

AFFECTED EMPLOYEES
This class fulfills the annual training requirement for full or part time employees that work where they could disturb or create friable asbestos.
Typically affected employees include but are not limited to those working in the following departments or organizational units:

  1. AGRICULTURAL EXPERIMENT STATION
    • Custodial, construction and maintenance workers
  2. BRANCH COMMUNITY COLLEGES - DONA ANA, ALAMOGORDO, CARLSBAD, GRANTS
    • Facility Support and/or Physical plant unit
  3. CORBETT CENTER
    • Custodial, construction and maintenance workers
  4. INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY -
    • Telecommunication and Networking Services
    • Voice and Alarm Services
  5. HOUSING AND DINING SERVICES
    • Custodial, Construction Maintenance and Painters
  6. OFS ADMINISTRATION AND SERVICES
    • Custodial Services
    • Carpentry
    • Central utility plant
    • Electricians
    • Engineering
    • Heating distribution
    • Masonry
    • Painters
    • Project management
    • Plumbers
    • Refrigeration
    • Roofing and construction
  7. OFS PLANNING AND CONSTRUCTION
    • Architects
  8. PHYSICAL SCIENCE LABORATORY

The class is free and open to the University community.  Any interested staff, faculty, or student may attend.
Seating is limited to 35-40 person and we need to record your attendance, so please in advance.
