The regular Safety Committee Meeting was called to order at 3:35 P.M.
by Katrina Doolittle, Chair. Chris Pennise made a motion that the
minutes from the previous meeting be approved. Jaime Marrujo seconded
the motion, which passed unanimously.
Katrina announced that the meeting would be oriented to presentations
and discussion. The goal is to highlight safety programs implemented
at NMSU. Departmental safety coordinators throughout the campus were
invited to attend.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Legal requirements for OSHA injury recording presented by
Chuck Ryder, EH&S.
a. Chuck distributed the legal requirements and forms
that NMSU is required to comply with when reporting injuries and
illnesses. He used a slide presentation to display lost time/work
restrictions of the latest injuries and illnesses by NMSU
department/office(s) reported on the 2005 OSHA 300A form. Chuck stated
that a copy of the OSHA 300A survey is posted on the web for three
months for public viewing. The latest (2004) was posted February 21,
2005.
2. Worker injury reporting presented by Jackie Griffin, Human
Resources.
a. Jackie distributed the Workers’ Compensation
procedures and forms for work-related injuries. She gave a brief
overview. Jackie expressed the importance of reporting injuries and
illnesses within the permitted time frame and submitting forms with
pertinent information. Jackie stated that all forms required for
reporting injuries and illnesses are on the Human Resources website.
b. Jaime Marrujo stated that he created all six
forms required to report work-related injuries on Microsoft Word and
that it is easy to type directly on them. If anyone is interested in
receiving them he would forward a copy.
OLD BUSINESS:
1. The importance of Training
a. Katrina stated that EH&S needs/wants feedback
on the training provided by the office. She stated that training
should be a priority to help reduce the incidence of injury &
illness at NMSU.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:45
P.M.
The
next University Safety Committee Meeting is scheduled for Oct 19, 2005 at
ARC 110.
