Note: Rotor/centrifuge safety clinic, 10 am, April 15, at EH&S facility
 

EH&S is pleased to provide this reminder of the special rotor safety clinic to be held tomorrow, April 15, 2009, at our Safety training facility and of the follow up safety inspection of rotors & centrifuges on NMSU campus (see previous email to lab managers and chemical hygiene officers) . The Centrifuge Team from Thermo Fisher Scientific, Laboratory Products Group, will be here to provide this clinic and service on April 15.  Environmental Health & Safety has reserved the Safety Training Facility, rm110 at the Academic Research Unit C (location is shown on our safety website at http://www.nmsu.edu/~safety/maps/map-link.htm) for that date and will help facilitate the event. 

The rotor/centrifuge safety clinic is from 10  to 11 am.  It will cover common problems and precautions to avoid accidents as well as examples of damage that can result from failure. Thermo Fisher Scientific representatives have also indicated that they will provide inspections of the rotors in the campus buildings.  The inspection will include a report for each unit which summaries the unit's type, specifications, & age; notes any wear or damage; and gives maintenance recommendations to ensure safe operation of the rotor or centrifuge.  The lab managers or users can either bring their units to the class or have them ready for an inspection after the class.

Attached is a flyer announcement for the class and I will send out another general email announcement via ABCD in the next week.  Please help promote this class to those individuals and labs using centrifuges and rotors on campus.
