Class Description & Contents
Description/purpose:
This course is designed to inform affected and authorized employees of the procedures to be used in the lockout/tagout process to ensure safety & protection during repair and maintenance of equipment. Employees will receive instructions in proper lockout/tagout procedures, the use of locks and tags, proper removal of lockout/ tagout devices and potential hazards involved in the lockout/tagout process.

Who should attend:
Affected Employees: Employees who operate or use a machine or equipment on which servicing or maintenance is being performed, or whose job requires him/her to work in an area in which such serving or maintenance is being performed.
Authorized Employees: Employees who lock-out or tag-out machines or equipment to perform servicing or maintenance.
- Initial upon assignment to the task and
- Retraining/review of lockout-tagout procedures is necessary for all affected/authorized employees whenever there is a change in machines, assignments, equipment, or processes that present a new hazard or when there is a change in the energy control procedures.This retraining will be completed and documented on an on-going basis by employee's area supervisor.
- Employees must also receive additional training and demonstrate understanding, if inspection or conditions show, that the employees are not following established procedures or that safety has been compromised.
Training frequency:
Length of course: One and half to two hours, depending on audience size and questions
This class is provided by EH&S and is on the semester schedule Call (646-3327) or email to set up a class for a special group or for more information.
Confined Space (also see NMSU Confined Space Program)
Description/purpose:
This course is designed to inform employees of the general procedures to be used for working in confined spaces.

whenever there is a change in control procedures. The review should be ongoing as
conditions change and information should be revisited at least annually by the supervisor. - Employees
must receive additional training and demonstrate understanding, if inspection
or conditions show, the employees are not following established
procedures or that safety has
been compromised.
