To improve health care in the southern eighteen counties of New Mexico by:

Coordinating and co-sponsoring continuing education events and other community-based activities that help meet the educational needs of health professionals Coordinating a variety of community health leadership trainings aimed at strengthening partnerships between health professionals and community groups and/or residents Assisting in development of placement sites for health professionals and students in training Providing learning opportunities for health care providers

SoAHEC is funded by a grant from the U.S. Public Health Service, Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) through the University of New Mexico (UNM) to New Mexico State University (NMSU). Additional funds are provided by the State of New Mexico, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the New Mexico Border Health Office, and the Paso del Norte Health Foundation.
