The Surveying Engineering Industrial Advisory Committee

Mission Statement

 

The NMSU Surveying Engineering Industrial Advisory Committee (SEIAC) provides a means for the surveying profession and the  Department of Surveying Engineering to communicate, cooperate, and interact for mutual benefit.

 

Background

 

The Surveying Engineering Industrial Advisory Committee (SEIAC) is a committee made up of members of the surveying profession, graduates of the NMSU Surveying and Surveying Engineering programs, and a NMSU ACSM/NMPS Student Surveying representative.  All members are chosen for a three-year term, except that the NMSU ACSM/NMPS Surveying Student representative shall serve at the pleasure of the ACSM/NMPS Surveying Student Association.

 

Committee members are nominated and approved by the current SEIAC members and NMSU Surveying Engineering faculty.  SEIAC members serve a three-year term and may not serve more than two consecutive terms.  Terms begin in January and end in December of the calendar year.  One member of the SEIAC shall serve as the President of the committee. A new President shall be elected for the next calendar year at the end of each calendar year.  The President shall appoint a Secretary to keep minutes of the SEIAC meetings.  SEIAC minutes shall be distributed to SEIAC members prior to the following SEIAC meeting.

 

Activities

 

The SEIAC meets with the faculty of the Department of Surveying Engineering at least once a year and advises the Department through the following activities:

 

1) Ongoing review of Surveying Engineering curriculum with suggestions for curriculum and course improvements;

 

2) Ongoing review of Department of Surveying Engineering equipment (including computer and computer software) needs with suggestions for equipment acquisition and upgrading;

 

3) Ongoing review of Department mission statement, educational objectives, and outcome assessment goals with suggestions for improvements and/or changes;

 

4) Ongoing review of Department long-term goals with suggestions for changes and/or improvements;

 

5) Other items of mutual interest.
