Department of Surveying Engineering Computer Labs and Study Room

The computer labs in the Department of Surveying Engineering are located in EC 1, Room 132 and in EC 3, Room 164.  Additional computers are available in the Surveying Student Study Room (EC1, Room 150).  You will need to get a “swipe” card from the Department Secretary (Cindy) to access EC 1, Room 132 and EC 1, Room 150..  There will be a small fee charged for the card.  There will be a fee for replacing lost or stolen cards and the lost or stolen card access code will be removed from the system.  Access to computers in EC3, Room 164, is by consent of instructor only.  “Swipe” cards will be normally be available only to Surveying Engineering majors.

Other computers are located in the Survey Equipment room (EC 1, Room 150A) and the GPS Lab (EC 1, Room 209).  These computers are to be used only to download/upload data from/to survey equipment.  Consent of instructor is needed to access these computers.

Computer accounts are automatically given to Surveying Engineering majors.  The account login will be your NMSU email name and your password will be your student ID.  If you register late, you may not show up in the system and need to contact one of the faculty members to arrange for you to get an account.  If you are not a Surveying Engineering student but are taking a Surveying class, you may apply for a Surveying Engineering computer account.  “Swipe” cards for non-Surveying Engineering students will ONLY be given if cause can be shown that such a card is necessary.

There is a NO FOOD OR DRINK policy in the computer labs located in EC 1, Room 132, and EC 3, Room 164.  You may eat and drink around any computers located in the Surveying Student Study Room but please be advised that these computers will not be replaced if damaged.   There is a NO SMOKING policy for all of the rooms in the building.  The first offense for eating or drinking will be a warning.  A second offense will result in the loss of computer and/or “swipe” card privileges for one week.  A third offense will result in loss of computer and “swipe” card privileges for the semester.

Any problems with the computers should be reported immediately to the Department Head.

Access to the Surveying Student Study Room will also require a “swipe” card.  The Study Room abuses, such as smoking, will result in loss of “swipe” card and Study Room access privileges.  There may be some work at the start of the Fall 2003 semester to improve the Study Room; please bear with us as we try to make the room more amenable to studying based on input from students like you.
