Vehicle Detector Clearinghouse
The
mission of the Vehicle Detector
Clearinghouse (VDC) is to provide information to transportation
agencies on the capabilities of commercially available vehicle
detectors by gathering, organizing, and sharing information concerning
tests and test procedures in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective
manner. Equipment types included in the VDC are devices which
detect vehicle presence, speed, axles, classification (AVC), and weight
(WIM). The clearinghouse will be a catalyst for developing
standard test protocols.
Public Information
Kiosks
In recent years, the Southwest
Technology
Development Institute has been developing visitor-center information
kiosks that consist of touch-screen technology, interactive software
programs, and databases that can be accessed by park visitors to learn
more about the park, it's history, and to view pictures and read
accounts of the subject of the park. Such kiosks are now at visitor
centers like Fort
Davis, Texas, and at the Little Bighorn
Battlefield National Park. Kiosks have also been developed for
the Olympic Pool in Atlanta, Georgia, and the Department of
Energy (DOE) to display interactive information about alternative
energy and the environment.
