College Level Examination Program

Our university welcomes students from a wide variety of backgrounds and learning experiences. Many students come to us with a firm grounding in many of the disciplines we teach. We recognize and honor your prior learning by accepting a full range of College Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests, which measure your mastery of college-level, introductory course content in a wide range of disciplines. Students meeting the credit-granting score standard will earn the credits and course exemptions listed in this policy. Transfer students can earn credit through prior CLEP exams if their scores meet these credit-- granting standards. CLEP credit will not be granted during a student's last 30 semester hours unless the Dean of your college waives the requirement. CLEP credit will be treated as transfer credit (without a grade), will count toward graduation and may be used in fulfilling specific curriculum requirements.

WARNING! Please be aware that some programs of study at NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY do not include electives. Therefore, elective credit is not useful to students in those programs. CLEP credit does not count toward your credit load for any semester. You must wait six (6) months before repeating a CLEP examination.
