Evaluation of the Bridge Weigh-In-Motion System (Wisconsin), 1985

Wisconsin Department of Transportation
Division of Planning and Budget
March 1985

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WISDOT) participated in FHWA's "Demonstration of Coordinated Weight Monitoring and Enforcement Program Using Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) Equipment" as part of the Rural Technical Assistance Program.

Primary factors such as portability, unobtrusiveness, and the overall benefit/cost ratio let to WISDOT's selection of a Bridge Weigh-In-Motion system to conduct Truck Weight Study data collection activities. The demonstration project has subsequently allowed WISDOT to test the operational performance of the Bridge WIM system while also a) establishing a comprehensive and representative base of truck weight data; b) testing new approaches to motor carrier enforcement; and c) promoting coordination between the various weighing programs.

The demonstration project has allowed WISDOT to test the overall performance of the Bridge WIM (BWIM) equipment as well as develop an entirely new comprehensive and representative truck weight data base.
