Direct Deposit

Direct Deposit is the standard method of issuing refunds to NMSU students with credit balances. Students are strongly encouraged to sign up for Direct Deposit in advance of any refunds.

Direct Deposit means you will receive your refund faster, with the refund being electronically credited to your financial institution, instead of waiting for a refund check and having to take the check to your financial institution. This convenience is very secure and is provided to students at NO COST.

STEPS TO SIGN UP FOR DIRECT DEPOSIT - Log into your account on the myNMSU Portal, select the student tab, select the Student Account link, then select the Direct Deposit Enrollment link. You will need the routing number for your financial institution and your account number.

A credit balance in a student’s account is typically created when excess financial aid remaining after all eligible charges on an account are paid in full. For example, when financial aid fund disbursed exceed the total amount of tuition and fees billed to a student’s account. In this case, the credit balance (refund) would be remitted to the student in the amount of the excess funds.

Student’s who cancel or withdraw from classes may have their financial aid adjusted and may owe some or all of the refund back to the University.

Students are highly encouraged to verify that direct deposit funds are available at their financial institution before they begin to write checks, pay bills, or withdraw money.
