To broaden recruiting efforts for the upcoming season, coaches at New Mexico State University want to create a network of Aggie alumni to help with the process.
Joel Washington, assistant coach of the NMSU womens basketball team, said there are areas that the coaches are unable to scout due to limited resources.
I want to be able to get alumni to feel like theyre still part of the Aggie family, Washington said.
The current recruiting efforts for the basketball team include subscribing to various scouting report services and attending tournaments around the country.
Earnest Wilson, assistant coach of the NMSU football team, said he begins recruiting in the triangle, which includes New Mexico, Texas, Colorado and Arizona.
For both coaches, the goal remains the same.
Our job is to graduate our athletes and build a winning program, Wilson said.
Our goal is to find players to help us reach the next level, Washington said.
With the womens basketball team making it to the conference championship game the last three years, NMSU is looking for players who will help the team compete.
Were looking for players who will be instrumental in helping us win the WAC and reach the NCAA tournament, Washington said.
Washington and Wilson said they encourage alumni to contact them if a talented player is physically seen in their community.
Well take all the help we can get, Wilson said.
Wilson said that alumni should contact the NMSU compliance office to make sure NCAA recruiting rules are always being followed.
