Its hard to communicate with the team when theres no place to teach, said NMSU football coach Hal Mumme.
Mumme said all team meetings had been held on the grass of the football field or in the locker rooms.
Ive never had a place where I could talk to all 105 guys at one time, Mumme said.
The building, located south of the stadium locker room, houses a lobby, a communication room, two small meeting rooms and a large room with theater seating for 110 student-athletes.
The Jumbotron scoreboard was installed in the same location as the previous scoreboard and is roughly twice the size.
Herb Taylor, senior associate director of NMSU athletics operations, said the new scoreboard allows for replays, advertisements and infomercials.
Since our scoreboard was 18 years old, and had electrical problems, it was time for a change, Taylor said.
With the new scoreboard in place, NMSU athletics unveiled Aggie Vision, a new production opportunity at NMSU.
Aggie Vision is an internal university broadcast strategy that will produce 45 broadcast productions of sporting events including football, men and womens basketball and volleyball, said McKinley Boston, athletics director at NMSU. We see it as a benefit for the entire university. The production crew is made up of NMSU students and they are getting real-world experience that will jump-start their careers.
Both the meeting room and the scoreboard were funded by the state.
Taylor said the meeting room and scoreboard are part of a five-year plan to upgrade all facilities that began with NMSUs inclusion in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).
