Stephanie Torres ’08 unintentionally fell into the world of competitive eating earlier this year, but she has already climbed her way near the summit. The finance grad had never even tried competitive eating until she was dared to enter a contest – and surprised even herself with how well she did. A second strong showing, in the regional round of the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, put her into the main event held each 4th of July in Coney Island, N.Y., and televised on ESPN. There, she took third in the women’s division, eating 28.5 hotdogs in 10 minutes. Torres plans on entering additional eating contests later this year and returning to the Nathan’s contest next summer. Her personal goal is to become just the third woman ever to eat more than 30 hotdogs in a contest.
