Brad Harlan, who was the first person to don the Pistol Pete costume in 1973 at a home football game in the Old Memorial Stadium. Harlan created the look for New Mexico State University’s mascot himself with clothing he bought at local stores. Since then, Pistol Pete has undergone many changes, but his role of bringing pride to university and community events has stayed the same.
