Everett
It has been a busy summer in the College of Business. Thanks to another gift from alumnus G. Carl Everett 73, the computer classroom established with his major gift in 2000 is getting a facelift. It will be rededicated at Homecoming.
Business Dean Garrey Carruthers says it will become the Financial Markets Trading Room, the first such room in the region. In addition to offering NMSU students a unique opportunity to get hands-on experience in the trading world, the one-of-a-kind room will be a tool for recruiting and retaining students. It also will be part of the colleges outreach into the community through the Center for Economics and Personal Finance and the Stock Market Game.
When first approached with this idea, Everett was very excited about the potential impact of the renovated space. Students will be working on the latest computers, faculty will enjoy new financial markets hardware and software and a live market ticker outside the room will expose all students to this component of the economy on a daily basis.
The Financial Markets Trading Room will help students gain vital experience in investing and trading that is necessary to be competitive in todays job market, says Ken Martin, professor of finance.
Everetts own career has taken him from Intel to Dell, as each was achieving market dominance, to working with a venture capital firm in Palo Alto, Calif. He credits his NMSU education with giving him the foundation to succeed in competitive markets.
