Co-head coaches for the NMSU womens golf team, Paul Brilliant and Jackie Booth, earned 2011 WAC Co-Head Coaches of the Year honors after a season that included a trip to the 2011 NCAA West Regional Tournament, a win at the Aggies home tournament, the Prices Give Em Five Intercollegiate and other All-WAC honors.
These kind of honors are won because of the student-athletes not because of the coaches, Brilliant says. This shows that we are doing what we can to motivate our student-athletes to reach their goals and we are proud of what they have done.
Booth and Brilliant started the NMSU womens golf program in 1982 and worked as a tandem for 10 years. After Brilliant retired in 1992, Booth took over as head coach and held the position for five years before heading to the University of New Mexico. Ten years later, she returned to join forces once again with her colleague and friend.
I am very honored to receive this award from my WAC coaching peers, Booth says. This years team was committed to working hard between tournaments and giving their best effort during competition. It was a fun and exciting season.
