Castillo Named New Engineering Dean

Steve Castillo
NMSU graduate and electrical engineering professor Steve Castillo took over as dean of the College of Engineering July 1. Castillo had been head of the Klipsch School of Electrical and Computer Engineering since September 1999.

A native New Mexican, Castillo received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering at NMSU and his master’s degree and Ph.D. at the University of Illinois. His research focuses on computational electromagnetism and high-performance computing.

Early in his research career, Castillo received the National Science Foundation’s Presidential Young Investigator Award, a highly competitive award that goes to some of the nation’s best young scientists and engineers. He was named a Regents Professor at NMSU this year.

As head of the Klipsch School, Castillo raised gifts that enabled the creation of an endowed chair, four endowed professorships and several new endowed scholarships for the support of electrical engineering majors.
