Look for an Aggie chapter near you and Joseph's class ring, too!

The 1998-1999 membership campaign is well under way. All you loyal alumni who have already sent in your membership we thank you! For those of you who have had good intentions, this can serve as a reminder.

We have seen a small increase in our paid NMSU Alumni Association membership. I believe this increase can be attributed to many things: excitement in the direction the university is heading, a better understanding of our annual membership campaign, alumni club activities and the services offered by the association. All combined, I think they add up to good old-fashioned Aggie pride!

For those of you who have never joined, we need you, too! Please help support your alma mater by becoming an active member. It is truly a bargain. When the association was founded a century ago, in 1898, dues were $1. Today, you can join for as little as $20.

If you still are not convinced, consider this new benefit: a subscription discount on New Mexico Magazine. (See coupon on page 11.) There is no better way to have the beauty of New Mexico in your home. Well, unless you live here.

Class Ring

Joseph Ivaska, '50, has lost his class ring and is hoping for a miracle. If you find a class ring, please let the alumni office know; it might be Joseph's.

Chile Connoisseurs

After a number of years based in downtown Las Cruces, the International Connoisseurs of Green and Red Chile are back on campus, with new headquarters in the Alumni Relations Office. With this move we are in the process of reorganizing. We are looking for former members who over the years were dropped from the roles. If you are a former member, please return the enclosed form. New members may also use the form.

Chapters

All members of the Alumni Association are invited to participate in our many chapters. Enquiries about starting new chapters are always welcome. I've had an inquiry about starting a chapter in Michigan, and we have held chapter meetings in Mexico and Paraguay. Chapters that meet annually or bi-annually are located in these areas: New Mexico - All counties have chapter activities, including honors nights.

Constituent Societies

In addition to geographical chapters, we have groups of alumni who have activities or reunions for those people with similar degrees or heritage. Some active groups are:

ROTC Reunion 2000

Gary Cataldo '70, is working on a reunion for all those commissioned while at NMSU. Plans for a great reunion in the year 2000 are under way. Gary has compiled a list of many NMSU grads who were in ROTC. You won't want to be left out. Please send your name and address to Gary Cataldo c/o the NMSU Alumni Association. You may also send him an e-mail to catgr@aol.com.

African-American Reunion 2000

Nora Ramzy, '78, Joe Johnson, '74, and Herman Stevenson, '81, are planning another reunion during Homecoming 2000, Oct. 28. At their last reunion in 1993, about 400 people were in Las Cruces for the weekend of reminiscing. Make plans to join the fun in 2000.

ASK (Alumni Sharing Knowledge)

A number of Aggie Alumni have signed up for this program. We haven't forgotten you, and we are getting closer to having everything in place so you can help current students or new graduates.

The Alumni Relations Office and Office of Student Affairs are working together and are looking for more volunteers to help new graduates with as little as a welcoming phone call when they arrive in your home town.

If you are interested, please send me your name, class year, address, phone and occupation. We will match you with a senior. Please mention it if you want to make the first contact.

Looking For Friends

Mario L. Cardenas, '51, '67, is retired and living in Taos County, N.M. He would like to hear from old friends.

Homecoming '98

This year Homecoming will be Oct. 29-31. Halloween will add a new dimension to Homecoming. Our theme is "Fall along the Rio Grande." Carter Porter, '93, designed the logo. This is one to add to your collection.

Activities begin on Thursday evening with the Class of '48 celebrating their golden anniversary. The Class of '58 will celebrate their 40th reunion with a dinner at the Double Eagle restaurant in Mesilla on Friday evening. Later that evening we will host the always popular alumni social, and the dance is back! Music will be provided by the Back Stage band. After you visit with old friends, stay and dance the night away. We may not be able to stay out as late as we did in college, but we can give it a try.

Saturday morning it's time for the Eye Opener Breakfast, a favorite. The parade follows at 9:30 a.m. The students have promised the best floats in years.

The football game is at 1:30 p.m. After the last two years of cold weather, NMSU is returning to an afternoon game. Let's all meet at Aggie Memorial Stadium to cheer our players to victory.

These are just a few of the many activities being planned. For more information, please contact the Alumni Association.
